Dutch Grand Prix Practice 1 Round-up

Practice 1 in Zandvoort lead to a series of incidents at the start of the session and even more towards the end. Lewis Hamilton started off the session with a spin at turn 2, losing the rear and managing to keep it out of the barriers - something Lance Stroll couldn't do later on in the day.

Yuki Tsunoda took too much kerb at turn 11 and had an exertion through the gravel trap again with a little spin with the first red flag being bought out moments later for Antonelli who had completely understeered wide and locked up the front left into the gravel at turn 8 just keeping out of the wall and unfortunately beaching his W16 which resulted in the end of his session.

Kimi's teammate - Russell also had issues through turn 10 with a loss of rear and later locking up his front left too at turn 1 travelling through the gravel at pace but managing to rejoin the escape road at the back of the gravel.

Carlos Sainz's Williams found the gravel at turn 11 - similar to Tsunoda although not spinning and rejoining just before the last corner, spraying stones as he travelled. Williams looking really solid in FP1 but losing their way slightly later on in the day.

Mclaren completely dominated FP1 although Norris brushed the gravel at turn 11 and Piastri having a wobble at turn 10, the pair had electrifying pace all session and finished comfortably 1 and 2 with Norris clocking in 1 1.10.278 almost 3 tenths quicker than Piastri.

Max Verstappen was not at the level he wants to be at like most weekends in 2025 but he consistently outperforms his RB21. P6 for his efforts in Practice 1. Something he definitely wouldn't have liked was the practice starts, off the line, similar to Russell at the mid point of the session, locked the inside front and went off but he also beached his car and had to jump out - some rare mistake for the 4x World Champion.

Aston Martin had a good day today. P4 for Alonso in FP1, low fuel pace looking positive for the Silverstone based outfit. Teammate Lance Stroll faired even better with P3 both Astons around half a second off the Mclaren's to his name but felt hampered on one of his later quick laps by Tsunoda along the dunes after turn 3. The Canadian got in the way of Bearman's lap later on too.
