Italian Grand Prix weekend preview

Monza is one of the absolute best tracks in Formula 1 and one of the oldest on the calendar with the likes of Silverstone, Monaco and Spa. Also known as "the temple of speed" , Monza is over a crazy figure of 80% full throttle with one of the longest straights in Formula 1 which also runs alongside the original layout of Monza with the outrageously dangerous banked oval the cars used to run on. First introduced in 1950 in the first season of F1, Monza is 5.793km long with 11 legendary corners like the Parabolica, Ascari and the famous double Lesmos. 53 laps of the track with the fastest grand prix lap set by Rubens Barrichello of a 1.21.046 in 2004 and the fastest average speed of any F1 track set by Lewis Hamilton in 2020.

This weekend Ferrari are introducing a Monza spec upgrade to the car with a crazy low downforce rear wing. However they are splitting the strategy with 1 car using the 2024 rear wing spec which was already a carryover from the SF-23 and tested with Pirelli. In addition, a more heavily trimmed and technically risky version has been developed, offering an even more extreme alternative. Ferrari have not won a race all season and are dreaming for one here although for Hamilton, it may already be a struggle with his carried over 5 place grid penalty for a yellow flag infringement on the laps to the grid in Zandvoort but has stated it "gives him more to fight for." This is the 7x World Champions first Monza Grand Prix in front of the Tifosi.

Monza has also had a €21 million resurfacing and upgrade project of turn 1 which has resulted in it being widened a bit.

Williams have lodged a right of request to the FIA regarding the penalty awarded to Carlos Sainz at the Dutch GP. "It is important for us to understand how we go racing in the future, and we are hopeful for a positive outcome" the team stated.

Lando Norris has "forgotten about Zandvoort already" and insists he does not need to change his approach on the championship battle with his teammate Piastri with the Brit now 34 points behind after his "Chassis problem" CEO Zak Brown explained.
