Singapore Grand Prix Qualifying Round-up
Qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix started with Pierre Gasly static down at the exit of turn 11, going of the road due to a mechanical issue with the car; "I've lost everything" the French man said over the radio. His yellow flag affected a range of drivers who were knocked out in Q1. Hamilton finished on top in Q1, Russell and Norris close behind. Bortoleto, Stroll, Colapinto, Ocon and Gasly were all at the bottom of the time sheets and knocked out.
The star of Q2 was undeniably Bearman as he wrestled his Haas into Q3 while his teammate was down in P19. Leclerc found himself last after his first run but pulled it out of the bag and got through to Q3 aswell. Similarly Antonelli's first lap time was deleted and he also managed to get through too as the seconds ticked on. Hulkenburg just missed out on Q3 by 0.065 in P11, Albon, Sainz, Lawson who did good to get his foot in again after a horrible practice for him and Tsunoda out aswell.
The start of Q3 was lit up by Russell, brushing the wall exit of turn 17, setting a 1.29.165, blitzing the all time track record since the reprofiling of the track on his first attempt. No one could even get close to his pace other than Verstappen who was a little chunk back to the Mercedes. The McLarens were not on pace for some reason , Norris P5 on his first attempt and Piastri a little bit further up in P3, Antonelli splitting them.
As the time came down, the heat was rising on track and in the cockpit and that made things a lot harder for everyone but not for Russell, who went even faster by 0.007. Norris brushed the wall again turn 17 and Leclerc had a moment on the last corner, hanging onto it and crossing the line very frustrated in himself by banging his steering wheel. No body really improved on their second run.
Verstappen, however, was absolutely giving it his all until the exit of turn 17 where he felt he was hampered by a slowing Norris who was boxing, the Dutchman felt like he was hurt by dirty air and backed out of his lap, securing Russell the pole position. Verstappen not happy with Norris gave him a thumbs up as he went past him on the pit entry saying that "will be remembered" in the post Qualifying interviews.
Russell take pole position from Verstappen, Piastri, Antonelli and Norris closing out the top 5 with both Ferraris behind. Best of the rest went to Hadjar, then Bearman and Alonso finishing the top 10. After qualifying, both Williams car were disqualified for the incorrect measurement in their rear wing slot, making both cars start from the back.
