Singapore Grand Prix Round-up
The Singapore Grand Prix was a very physically tough race for all the drivers with different outcomes for some drivers.
The lights went out and it was a solid start for Russell on the clean side of the track compared to Verstappen and the 2 went through the first complex clean. Leclerc also had a great start, shooting past Hamilton and Antonelli who were compromised on the left side. However the drama was between the McLarens, Norris went flying up the inside of Piastri and slightly tapped Verstappen which caused him to lose control of his car and make a small correction which sort of threw his car towards Piastri, the 2 banging tyres and sending Piastri wide with Norris going through. There was also an incident between Hadjar and Bearman, Hadjar squeezed between cars and hitting Bearmans rear right sending the Brit wide and around the run of bollard.
Piastri complained on that radio that it was not fair that his teammate (Norris) had to crash into him to avoid another car (Verstappen) and that its a **** job of avoiding. Hadjar managed to reclaim P8 past Alonso at turn 9 that he lost at turn 1, on lap 1 and Ocon dived Tsuonda at turn 7 for P16 on lap 2. Ollie Bearman sent a move up the inside of Albon from a long way back down into turn 16, just keeping it within the white lines. Hadjar unfortunately suffered an engine issue causing him to lose 4 tenths per lap in the straights but he was still the same pace as the cars around him in the corners allowing him to continue he indured in a titanic battle with Alonso lasting from turn 16 all the way to turn 5 on the next lap (37-38) but ultimately the rookie could not put up a fight much longer from his limited engine.
On lap 28, Piastri suffered a 5.2 second pitstop, the left rear taking too long and similarly Alonso having a 9 second stop his front right not going on too at the same time as Piastri. Frustrated, Alonso said "if you speak to me every lap I will disconnect the radio" to his race engineer, clearly not happy with the stop. Max Verstappen suffered a very rare bad lock up into turn 14 on lap 36, just managing to slow the car down in time, the Dutchman complaining about the downshifts of his RB21. Lap 43 encountered a feisty battle for only P14 between Tsunoda, Colapinto, Hulkenburg, Bortoleto, Gasly and Ocon when Colapinto had a huge lock up in turn 7 and Tsunoda got past, pushing him back towards the bigger pack. Hulkenburgs front left end plate came of from the fight with Gasly into turn 8. Albon also had a massive lock up into turn 7, defending from Alonso but not managing to stay infront, going of track.
Hulkenburgs rear brakes locked up and he spun at turn 7, avoiding the barriers after Colapinto "supposedly" broke early into the corner and caught the German by surprise on lap 45. On lap 53, Norris had his first go at Verstappen down into turn 7, Verstappen going defensive and keeping the position, whilst Antonelli was fighting Leclerc and a lap later, due to the poor Ferrari heat management and Leclerc lifting and coasting early for turn 16, Kimi managed to dive up the inside and take the place, freeing him from behind the struggling Ferrari. Carlos Sainz was another driving who made outstanding progress, being disqualified from qualifying on Saturday to the points on Sunday, staying out long and pitting for an attacking charge in the remainder of the race and getting a point.
George Russell wins the Singapore Grand Prix in a dominant fashion, keeping the lead of the start and gained where he lost out after the pitstop. The 5th win in his career and clear steps taken from the W16 edges Russell closer to that contract extension. Verstappen held of Norris for P2 and P3, gaining a few points on the championship leader - Piastri in P4. McLaren secured the constructers championship for the 2nd year in a row, their car exactly double the points of Mercedes, showing that strength in consistency and pace all year.
