Redbull back in the fight in 2025?

Image
Redbull have seen a significant fall off from dominance in the end of these 2022 cycle of regulations, being overtaken by McLaren, Mercedes and Ferrari in the constructers championship since this time last year, Verstappen the only man seeming to keep that team alive up until now. Redbull seemed to have unlocked something critical with their floor upgrade according to GPblog.com. Verstappen has now dominated the last 2 Grand Prixs in Italy and Azerbaijan , reminiscent to the 2023 season and the start of 2024.  The RB 21 is now more stable and predictable, especially in the lower speed corners. There struggles in the lower speed corners has been exposed a lot more this year looking at a race like Hungary for example, Verstappen ending up P9 that day. Now Redbull can run the car much lower to the floor which helps to increase their pace. Max also tested a new front wing in Azerbaijan, which also seemed decently effective for the Redbull eliminating the tedious understeer the RB21 suf...

No progression over contract for George Russell and Mercedes

Image
It has been recently reported that there is no progress over the renewal of George Russell from Mercedes, despite the podium last time out in Azerbaijan and the numerous before that too including a dominant weekend in Canada. Previous information has signified that the length of the contract is the main issue for Russell. He may want a multi year contract but Mercedes CEO, Toto Wolff may only be willing to present a 1 year deal due to the possibility of the availability of Max Verstappen in the coming time. Toto Wolff has constantly expressed his interest in the 4x World Champion while also still praising his current driver so the conflict of interest here does not sit right with many. Russell has arguably been in the top 2 best drivers this season with Max and wants to stay at Mercedes so why would Toto move away from him?  Max Verstappen of course comes with a lot of benefits like always maximizing what the car can offer and 'The Max Factor' many internally have exclaimed. Bu...

Azerbaijan Grand Prix Round-up

Image
The Azerbaijan Grand Prix was entertaining all the way throughout with a massive moment for the championship as Oscar Piastri jumped the start hugely and tried to slow down to counter it but went into anti stall which meant he bogged down completely and ended up last after turn 1. If it couldn't get any worse for him, it did and he locked up going into turn 5 and couldn't turn at all and completely careered into the wall and was out of the Grand Prix. Absolute disaster for the championship leader. There was also a coming together between Hulkenburg and Ocon literally just after Piastri crashed and at turn 6, Hulkenburg clipped Ocons rear right and he half spun around but kept it going. The safety car came out and Albon and Ocon gambled and pit behind it, and as it came in Russell and Antonelli went wheel to wheel into turn 1 and Russell was shoveled wide by the Italian, close to being in the wall. Leclerc also jumped Norris of the restart too. Piastri received a 5 second time p...

Azerbaijan Grand Prix Qualifying Round-up

Image
Qualifying for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix displayed all the drama you could offer from big name crashes , rain and unexpected drivers in top positions. Hulkenburg kicked the session off, nearly clipping the dangerous turn 15 wall after having a small lock up into the braking zone. The first red flag fell soon after with Albon hitting the inside wall of turn 1, breaking his suspension and pulling over to the side. A disappointing result for the Thai who looked quick at times this weekend so far. Q1 continued and Antonelli had many difficulties during it. He picked up a yellow flag infringement for failing to slow under double waved yellows for Albon, he reported he "didn't see them" ; this could have an impact on his starting position for the race. He also had an off at the final corner on his next fast lap which was deleted and left him last with 6 minutes left. Another red flag in Q1 hit when Hulkenburg had an issue in turn 4, breaking his front wing but managing to get t...

Azerbaijan Grand Prix Practice 3 Round-up

Image
Practice 3 for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix was met with harsh wind conditions reported by Hadjar as he explained "the wind is pushing me to the right on the straights" over the team radio. Ollie bearman had a few moments early, going straight on at turn 1 and locking up at turn 4 too.  Hamilton looked to pick up from where he left off and started the day with going wide over the raised kerb of turn 17 with teammate Leclerc also having a big snap of oversteer into the same turn and going off track on his fast lap. Hamilton also went straight on at turn 3 on his next go which compromised his run plan but managed to get a lap on the board which was provisional P1 for now a 1.42.988. Bortoleto was another rookie who was having an off session finding himself straight on at turn 3, locking up his left front and having the same action happen again at turn 16 later on. Piastri had another session of Norris but managed to take Hamiltons P1 spot for a little while, gaining a slipstream o...

Azerbaijan Grand Prix Practice 2 Round-up

Image
Practice 2 left of where Practice 1 finished off with still lots of time left on the table for all teams going into the afternoon where we would see a lot more mistake and overshooting corners this session as the drivers tried to constantly find the limit more and more of their machine on the track. Liam Lawson was the first victim of the day, going down the escape road at turn 16 and at the same time, Hamilton double locking up his tyres and straight on at turn 7. Bearman also found himself down the escape road at turn 8 just before the castle section, not once but twice in FP2. Leclerc clipped the wall at turn 3 and 4 on the same lap as he was pushing hard early on, Ferrari looking competitive. Albon was the first driver to take on the hard tyre, struggling for traction over the raised curb of turn 17 and Stroll just brushing the tech-pro wall of turn 16 - something that became very familiar throughout both sessions as Colapinto and Piastri did the same thing too and Piastri having a...

Azerbaijan Grand Prix Practice 1 Round-up

Image
Practice 1 for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix started off with some drama for the championship leaders. Lando Norris was to box to remove a yellow pito cover that was on a front sensor and camera. Oscar Piastri also had an issue with the engine which, at the time, was thought to be terminal for the championship leader but was fixed later in the session but he had lost a massive chunk of time in FP1. Gabriel Bortoleto was the first of the day to find an escape road, going deep at turn 3 and completing a nice 360 to come back on track. Alex Albon had an issue with his left mirror as it came flying of down the start and finish straight and George Russell moments later, reporting a "burning smell" from his W16 which could have possibly been his brakes and further reported "serious bottoming" on tbe straights. Carlos Sainz's Williams went sliding over the raised curb of turn 17 and a small piece of debris fell off and was stuck in and under the kerb which bought out a len...
