United States Grand Prix Sprint Round-up

Absolute chaos at the start of the sprint race in Austin. Norris had a worse start compared to Piastri and all of a sudden they were wheel to wheel into turn 1 and Hulkenburg and Alonso came flying down the inside of both McLarens and Hulkenburg smashed into Piastri and was also sent into Norris, both McLarens suffering significant damage and forced to pull over and retire from the sprint. Hulkenburg spun, lost his wing from Piastri and that was picked up from Tsunoda, the wing stuck under his floor and eventually came out and spewed all over the track. Alonso also retired from the race too, the side of his car damaged enough for him not to continue and a puncture for good measure on the rear right tyre. Stroll also had contact with the Alpine of Gasly and teammate Colapinto got a puncture from Hadjar who had to slow down from the spun Hulkenburg, he went round the outside of him and ran out ot room. Hamilton almost went into the back of Piastri when he was going slow from the contact and Leclerc threaded the needle between a slowed Hamilton and a punctured Alonso.

Verstappen kept his lead and Russell and Sainz got through into P2 and P3. Ferrari had an amazing result from everything Leclerc and Hamilton up into P4 and P5. It was Verstappen and Russell on the safety car restart and the battle heated up and saw Russell sent a dive down the inside at turn 12, locked up and both went of the track on lap 8. Russell gave the place back and the battle continued.

Antonelli also made a place up to P9 on the same lap, ahead of Gasly, who was also overtaken by Lawson too, both done into turn 12. Leclerc had an off at turn 5 and that opened the door for Hamilton to make an epic move on him down the back straight and up into P4 and started to chase down Sainz's Williams.

Hadjar got past a damaged Hulkenburg down the back straight too, the Sauber trying to fight him but ultimately conceding the place. Some sensational racing from Antonelli and Bearman through the last sector and onto the next lap, Antonelli gaining the position with a dive in turn 15, bearman of the track and keeping the position. Bearman received a 10 second penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage, Antonelli gaining that place and a point too.

Lance Stroll and Ocon had a big impact at turn 1 on lap 16, Stroll sending a dive bomb into turn 1 from a long way back, locking up and hitting the Haas the in the rear. Strolls suspension and wheel was up in the air and Ocons rear right tyre had come off. Both out of the race and 15 cars remained. Safety car out. Just running out of laps , and the race finished under the saftey car.

Max Verstappen won the sprint race in Cota, holding of the challenge of Russell in P2 and denting the championship lead by 8 points to both McLarens and another top 3 for Carlos Sainz too. Both Ferraris secured P4 and P5. A double points finish for Williams too with Albon in P6. Tsunoda picking up some more points for Redbull in P7 and Antonelli P8. Mercedes, Ferrari and Redbull gaining 8,9 and 10 points for the constructers fight for P2. Qualifying to come later on with Parc Ferme reopened, anything can happen.
