Dutch Grand Prix Round-up

Image
The Dutch Grand Prix was one of the most dramatic races of the season, from DNFS, to rain, to another rookie podium, Netherlands cooked up a a storm of a race and something arguably the fans needed to keep the energy alive for the 2025 season. Even before the race had started, Lewis Hamilton was picked up for a yellow flag infringement meaning that he did not slow down under the yellow flags on the reconnaissance laps to the grid and this was investigated after the race and he was unfortunately given a 5 place grid penalty to serve at monza, something the tifosi will not be happy about and the race was arguably worse for Ferrari too. With Ollie Bearman starting from the pits after taking a new engine, lap 1 was underway and Norris has a slightly better start than Piastri but in the second phase, got cut across by him and had no where to go, leaving the door nicely open to soft runner Verstappen to take the place and up he went to P2. Moments later tried to send it on Piastri at turn 3 ...

Dutch Grand Prix Qualifying Round-up

Image
Qualifying started of in a dramatic fashion with Aston Martins Lance Stroll at the final corner, turn 13 dropping his front left wheel into the grass and sent spinning through the gravel and hitting the barrier at the top of the banking, breaking his front wing and just managing to limp back to the pits but with more damage on the left hand side, Stroll did not come out for a final lap and that was his qualifying over and out in P20. Ollie Bearman made a mistake on his last run in Q1 which put him into the drop zone and with everyone improving knocked him out in P19 along with teammate Ocon in P18 respectively. Tuki Tsunoda found himself in the bottom 5 aswell and squeezed in a solid lap to take him to P12 and through in to Q2. Lawson set a great time to take him in to the top 5. Piastri and Norris 1 and 2 for the moment as the session concluded. Colapinto, Hulkenburg, Ocon, Bearman and the damaged Aston of Stroll all exit Q1. The start of Q2 was interesting to say the least. A fox fou...

Dutch Grand Prix Practice 3 Round-up

Image
Final Practice ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix with qualifying coming next and it was Lando Norris who stormed to the top of the times yet again like practice 1 and 2 but this time, absolutely smashing his 2024 pole time by 6 tenths with a 1.08.972 just shy of 2 and a half tenths clear of championship rival and teammate Piastri who finished off the McLaren 1-2. George Russell again best of the rest, slotting into P3 and almost 9 tenths of the phenomenal McLaren pace. Silver Arrows teammate, Kimi Antonelli was suffering with technical issues. His downshift paddle giving him troubles and taking him out of the session for a short while. He was also blocked on his last soft flying lap of the session by Lance Stroll and Yuki Tsunoda at the line, forcing him to back off and ruining his run and staying P17. Max Verstappen again off the pace, suffering with understeer in the RB21 and felt like he was hampered by Alpine driver Pierre Gasly who may have slightly come onto the racing line but it wa...

Dutch Grand Prix Practice 2 Round-up

Image
Second Practice at the Dutch Grand Prix started off with a hefty crash for Aston Martins Lance Stroll. After looking good in FP1 with A P3 result, Lance suffered a lock up at turn 3 and clattered the wall on the outside of the banked corner and was lucky he did not hurt his hand as he kept his hands on the steering wheel on impact. -This incident happened to Daniel Riccardo back in 2023 when Piastri hit the wall and Daniel not wanting to hit him went into the wall too but the impact thrusted his hand and broke it. He had just come back to F1 after being dropped for De Vries and then had to be replaced by current Racing Bulls driver Liam Lawson- A lengthy red flag followed and when they went green Isack Hadjar reported "no power" in his RB and was forced to stop on track and retire just on the outside of turn 8. This resulted in a Virtual Safety Car. The session resumed again and with about half of the time remaining, Lewis Hamilton suffered another spin on the exit of turn 9 ...

Dutch Grand Prix Practice 1 Round-up

Image
Practice 1 in Zandvoort lead to a series of incidents at the start of the session and even more towards the end. Lewis Hamilton started off the session with a spin at turn 2, losing the rear and managing to keep it out of the barriers - something Lance Stroll couldn't do later on in the day. Yuki Tsunoda took too much kerb at turn 11 and had an exertion through the gravel trap again with a little spin with the first red flag being bought out moments later for Antonelli who had completely understeered wide and locked up the front left into the gravel at turn 8 just keeping out of the wall and unfortunately beaching his W16 which resulted in the end of his session. Kimi's teammate - Russell also had issues through turn 10 with a loss of rear and later locking up his front left too at turn 1 travelling through the gravel at pace but managing to rejoin the escape road at the back of the gravel. Carlos Sainz's Williams found the gravel at turn 11 - similar to Tsunoda although no...

Mercedes downplay the chances that 2026 will be decided by engine power

Image
Mercedes have often been named as "the" contender for the 2026 title and who are likely to produce the best engine for the new regulation cycle - just like the 2014 start of the turbo hybrid era with the "dual in the desert" between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg which is just 1 of many dominated races by the German manufacturer.  However, other engine manufacturers are looking eager to set the standard for 2026 aswell like Aston Martin who are partnering with Honda for the year and on the other hand Ferrari are keen to make a statement aswell. Redbull Powertrains with Ford and Audi may fall behind at the start with both teams making unsure statements about their progress. Christian Horner explained before he was sacked that "it would be embarrassing if Redbull were ahead of Mercedes in engine performance." Reading between the line Redbull and Ford are not necessarily confident in their machine yet.  Allison explains difference makers for 2026...

One last dance for upgrades in the 2022 - 2025 F1 regulations

Image
Haas are a Formula 1 team who have gone through a complete reshape of their structure and facilities over the last years from completely new drivers and team boss to building a bigger trackside pit wall. Their strong relationship with Ferrari means they buy a lot of resources like the supply of engines and a number of other aerodynamic components. Coming to the end of the 2022 regulation cycle and opening up a new chapter of Formula 1 cars in 2026, pretty much all the F1 teams have swapped to full focus on the new regulations with the teams being allowed to start manufacturing and construction on the new cars from January 1st 2025. George Russell - Mercedes driver - said to motorsport "the recent lack of performance isn't ideal, but actually the truth is 95 percent of the workforce is already on 2026." Mercedes, now not expected to bring any other big upgrade packages to the already race winning W16. However, Haas are planning to bring the last big package of any team to ...

Image
Portimão was introduced to the F1 calendar back in 2020 when Portugal was unaffected enough from covid to be able to host a round of motorsport. Since then, it was only on the calendar for 1 more year in 2021 until the F1 calendar returned to the original schedule. Other tracks like Mugello Italy, Eiffel Germany, Istanbul Park Turkey, Sakhir Bahrain outer circuit and a second race in Austria (also known as the Styrian Grand Prix) and the 70th anniversary second race in Silverstone England has been removed from the calendar in 2020 and in Turkey's case 2021. Image
Formula 1 team Redbull Racing are widely known for their ruthless driver changes over the years and if a driver is underperforming, they will be easily replaced with the phrase "anyone is replaceable" living up to expectation, even in the peak of motorsport. In 2025, Redbull were at it again and within 2 races Liam Lawson was replaced by VCARB driver Yuki Tsunoda just before Tsunoda's home race in Suzuka , Japan with Lawson returning to the sister team. Liam, who finished 20th and last in both Chinese sprint qualifying and main Grand Prix qualifying was believed to have been "mentally struggling" with the Redbull car according to Rebull mechanics which is famously rumoured to be built around the 4x World Champion Max Verstappen who also has a very aggressive driving style which any other driver cannot match on the grid.                                              ...

Image
Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 CEO and team part-owner Toto Wolff has been spotted in Sardinia on his yacht with 4x World Drivers Champion Max Verstappen as tensions begin to rise over the future of the Mercedes driver line-up with lots of rumours spreading about where current driver George Russell sits in this conversation. Here we can see the two having 'a laugh together' on the yacht. Verstappen mentioned at the pre weekend interviews at the Hungarian Grand Prix tha t "you can have a personal relationship with someone even if you don't have a working relationship with someone." and "If his boat is next to Toto's then it's next to Toto's." Regardless of his comments the two were spotted together. Max saying he is staying with Redbull Racing for 2026 but could a move on the table be there for 2027? Max not being 4th or lower in the 2025 Drivers Standings means he is not able to walk out of Redbull for free anymore and more than likely a buy...
